Today, I wanted to share some of the reasons I hear frequently as to why some women think they can't or shouldn't do a boudoir session. I think they're important to break down because there are so many women, just like you & me, who have told themselves each of these exact excuses; but they decided to take the plunge anyway, and are looking back with the only regret being they wished they had done it sooner!

1. "I need to lose weight first."

Some say 5-10 pounds, or "the baby weight" or that they're "not as toned as they would like to be." What they're really saying, though, is they're afraid they won't like how they look in the photos. I will absolutely not discourage exercising or healthy eating habits, or losing weight for the sake of physical or mental health, but in all honesty, you don't NEED to lose the weight.

I've been this woman before, so I totally get it. I booked my own session about 3 months ahead of time to allow myself the time to shop around for my outfits and potentially lose 5 to 10 pounds, if I could. Well, if anything, I GAINED 10 lbs, because, well, LIFE. And you know what? I still LOVED my images, and now looking back, I'm SO glad it happened that way because it gave me the confidence to accept my body at any weight and I felt happier because I wasn't so worried about losing weight.

2. "I'm not photogenic"..."I won't look like the gorgeous women on your website."

You need to stop yourself right there. One, never compare yourself to another woman's beauty! Your own beauty is uniquely yours, and you should embrace it! Also, NONE of the women I photograph are models! They're all 100% real everyday women with zero experience with posing etc. The right photographer can take AMAZING images of ANY woman, regardless of body shape or experience level. You can take the plunge with the assurance that I will pose you down to your toes in positions that will flatter your shape and your inner sensuality!

3. "I don't have any sexy lingerie" or "I'm not really a garters and stockings kinda girl"

Oooh girl, there are SO many other things that can be sexy other than lingerie!! Here are some things you can grab right from your dresser and/or closet RIGHT NOW that would make for awesome boudoir photos:

  • Matching bra & panties

  • Oversized sweater or a cute cardigan

  • Your favorite pair of sexy jeans

  • Your favorite black dress

  • Your significant other's favorite work shirt

  • Just sheets!

The important thing is that you feel comfortable, and YOU!
